A little #preservationbattle to start your Friday. I'm in front of the venerable Detroit Boat Club, and it would be a damn shame to lose this building. Belle Isle is one of Detroit's gems—an island park in the Detroit River. For those new to the Motor City, Detroit Yacht Club is actually just down the street, and is still up and running as an active club & clubhouse. The Detroit Boat Club, as you can see, has had a few scrapes... and then a few more... Yes, the building is in tough shape, but YESSSSSS!!!!!! the building can be saved. I'm of the belief that this building needs to be preserved. It would be a damn shame if we lost this building, especially now. This is the first building that anyone sees when crossing the Belle Isle bridge, and I can guarantee that any sort of replacement wouldn't come close to holding a candle to this place. That's if it's even replaced at all. A nice write-up in the Detroit Free Press by Nancy Kaffer made me take notice that something needs to happen here and needs to happen soon. Most signs point to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources demolishing the building. Nancy called the ol' KC Conway, barbeque sauce on the DNR's numbers, and I would happen to agree. If this building can be mothballed to live to fight another day, let's do that instead of sitting on our hands.. the price will probably be the same anyway. In either event, I think a hospitality concept mixed in with its original theme of rowing & boats would do just fine at this location. #linkedinfam, #crefam, and #detroitfam - Scott Nicholas Mark Conrad Jon Robert Maggie Shane Jeffrey Adam Jason Joe Gabe Kevin Adam Renee Michael Nick Brendan Matthew Gregory Angela Craig Janet Dane Bill Randy Alex Mark Wendy JP John Dan Rob Brandon - let's try to figure this one out! #savills #detroit #ccim #sior #historicpreservation

A recent instruction for a Heritage Statement took me to a small enclosed courtyard between East Street and Kings Road in Brighton, that contains what is left of a former terrace of C18th fisherman’s cottages. The two remaining cottages, now a single dwelling known as Dolphin Cottage, are believed to be earliest surviving development of the area, with building core dated at 1720.What is sad is the setting for what is left of this historic terrace, now completely enclosed behind a key pad gate and hemmed in by rear elevations complete with large air-conditioning units and commercial ducting. One of the considerations of the Heritage Statement was how the Grade II listed cottage might be impacted by a proposed local development. Given this property is now hidden from view, in a yard filled with commercial bins and appears to be all but forgotten, the setting of this historic cottage could not be less appropriate. It is to be hoped that with proper consideration of heritage stock and setting that any future development will at least not make the situation any worse.#heritageconservation #heritageandplanning #heritagebuildings

Best Neighborhoods In Gainesville | MaderaThe first neighborhood we'll be exploring is Madera. It's extremely close to the University of Florida, but you can definitely miss it if you aren't looking!Located in Southwest Gainesville, home sizes range from 1,800sqft to over 3,000sqft, and the majority of the lots are on a third of an acre. They were built in the mid 2000 - 2010 time frame, and prices range from $400,00 to over $600,000.The great thing about this area is it's considered a LID community, which stands for Low Impact Design, so there are tons of trees and plants in the neighborhood. The location is another great factor when it comes to this neighborhood since it is so close to the University, Shands Hospital, Archer Road, and Sweetwater Wetlands Park.Donavan ArnoldRealtor®Momentum Realty352-281-1188[email protected]#bestneighborhoods #Gainesvilleliving #Madera #southwest #UniversityofFlorida #ShandsHopsital #location #ArcherRoad #SweetwaterWetlandsPark #housesize #acres #lowimpact #pricing #livingingainesville #momentumrealty #Gainesville #florida

January 25, 2024: Today is National Florida Day! This day recognizes the 27th state to join the U.S.Some interesting facts about ‘The Sunshine State’ include:·Settled by Spaniards in 1565, St. Augustine is the country’s oldest inhabited city.·Everglades National Park in South Florida is the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles co-exist in the same ecosystem.·Noplace in Florida is more than60 miles away from the Gulf of Mexico or Atlantic Ocean.·With more than 1,300 golf courses, Florida has more golf courses than any other state.·Jacksonville is the largest city in the country by land area. It has a population of 962,970 and a land area of 875 square milesThe 17th Street Bridge is a gateway to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, connecting the busy Las Olas area to popular beaches across the Intracoastal Waterway. The precast concrete segmental approach bridges rise above the riverbanks and allow the newly available property below to be used for park areas and parking. FIGG led two design charettes with area residents to gain their input on a variety of bridge features, including pier shapes, colors, and lighting. The community selected an aesthetic theme of “timeless/contemporary.” FIGG designed the approach bridges for the Florida Department of Transportation.#civilengineering #concrete #bridge #florida
